Lumen Evaluation LLC, founded in May 2022 and led by Dr. Alex Severson, specializes in providing expert applied public policy evaluation and data analysis services grounded in extensive research experience. With a Ph.D. in Political Science from Florida State University and over four years of applied policy evaluation experience at the Center for Applied Research & Analysis (CARA) at the University of New Mexico, Dr. Severson at Lumen Evaluation uses a strong academic foundation in the social sciences—encompassing political science, psychology, and economics—to deliver practical, real-world insights from data-powered program evaluations.

Lumen Evaluation’s expertise lies in quantitative methods and research design, applied to a variety of significant projects. These include evaluating the effectiveness of Bernalillo County’s Public Safety Assessment (PSA) tool in predicting defendants' likelihood of court appearance and pretrial criminal activity, as well as assessing the implementation fidelity and downstream effectiveness of key Bernalillo County programs such as the Community Connections Supportive Housing (CCSH) program, the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program, the Mobile Crisis Teams (MCT) program, and the Peer Case Management (PCM) program.

Under Dr. Severson’s leadership, Lumen Evaluation has partnered with organizations like Albuquerque Heading Home and YLabs, producing insightful reports on participant health service utilization and the impact of exposure to climate anomalies on fertility preferences and contraception use in low- and middle-income countries.
